USING VOICETHREAD AND ETHERPAD WITH GATSBY

This is an excellent blog post by Lisa Huff at her Just Read page. Voicethread is a powerful tool that I recently shared with my English department as well as Etherpad as a collaborative writing tool.

WEBSITE TEXT TO PDF

For those of us who use Internet articles in our classroom.

From Larry Ferlazzo:
Sometimes just saving a webpage in our bookmarks isn’t enough — like when we want copies to hand-out to our students….. And, especially if we want something for our students to read, it would be nice to have a “clean,” easy-to-read copy, with no ads.

E-PORTFOLIOS

E-porfolios are a natural extension, or at least a companion, to project-based learning. I embarked on this journey for several reasons that took gradual shape as more technology became available to classroom teachers. As an English teacher, one of my concerns was the fact that so few of our students were reading assigned novels. I decided to jump in with two feet and give over the choices almost entirely to students with some parameters.  teach short works, model literary analysis, and directly instruct writing skills two days of each week, while the remaining three are dedicated to project work. I have a blog that I use to give the students guidelines for how to choose and analyze novels, short stories, poetry, drama and films. I also have a sample e-portfolio so students can see exactly how a blog can be used to present their projects.

We use edublogs.org for students are new to blogging and students who are more savvy can choose the platform they like.  To analyze works students use Wordle, Animoto, Glogster, Prezi, Voicethread, podcasting, text messaging, iMovie, as well as text based formats such as annotating poems, Freitag model for plot development and narrative literary outlines.
