      Secondary • Language Arts • Visual Arts

Students will learn about Marshall’s creative process when painting Better Homes, Better Gardens and discuss how it influences their perception of his work. They will also discuss the thematic content of the artwork and write a creative piece inspired by the painting.

MAKING PICTURE BOOKS

High school students love picture books and they enjoy making them as well. English teachers can embed many literary and writing skills into the creation of the stories. For example, criteria can include using literary elements and or devices, narration and point of view, and character development. Below are two samples and the assignment and rubrics used. Enjoy!
